Yungblud ‘Hated’ Review

by Madison Avery

Dominic Harrison, widely known for his stage name Yungblud, recently released a single titled ‘Hated’ opening up about a traumatic encounter in his life. Now, you're probably thinking the song is a sad ballad, however in true Yungblud fashion he took a 180 and the song is more a “fuck you” and exploding how he felt recounting what happened. Yungblud said “this is the most personal thing I’ve ever released, that’s not to say it’s gentle or soft. Far from it. It’s a rally cry and an exposition of the soul.”

The beat of the song gives off a Slim Shady vibe and Yungblud doesn’t phrase anything lightly. He sings of being sexually assaulted as a child by a doctor and highlights certain details about the abuser singing “She’s probably finding out now, in the line to your show / Why you’ll never trust a guy in a tie and a coat”.

In the pre chorus he sings “But you don’t want to do what your daddy did / Bury it deep down, keep it under your skin / So you put pen to paper, made a verse of it”, Yungblud had to took to Instagram to discuss the single and said he had never told anyone of the assault until now with the song.

Another subject he touches on in the song is how people had hated on him saying he’s “a posh, queer-baiting, indulgent arsehole” and how he can’t let other people’s opinions affect who he is.

The day before the song came out Yungblud had said on Instagram “The song is ultimately about freeing yourself from bad experiences and trauma, finding your inner strength, acknowledging your past, accepting the pain and having the courage not to let it define your future.”.

The song encourages people to not let that define who you are and be who you are. Yungblud has never been the type of person to shy away from the truth and is constantly breaking societal norms.
